First step is to find your door. We are using a hollow core door from the hardware store. These come in various sizes, and they run around $20-35 a piece. You want to get a door that is large enough to cover the opening you will be building this for.

DIY Sliding Barn Door HACK! – Make Your Cuts

First, cut the horizontal boards to fit the width of your door. I am not adding measurements to these plans, because you want to cut and fit everything to fit your size door. We are using 1/4” craft boards. These are generally found in the same section as pine boards at the hardware store. Attach all boards using wood glue and 5/8” staples.

Now measure for the vertical boards. Cut these to fit each space. You will also attach these using wood glue and 5/8” staples.

Now, line up the first diagonal board, and place it on top of the attached trim pieces. Get it placed at the angle it needs to be, and use a pencil to mark for the exact cut.

Repeat this step for the next three diagonal boards. Attach all of these boards using wood glue and 5/8” staples.

Now line up the opposite diagonal boards and line them up where they need to be. Again, use a pencil to mark the exact cut of both the overall board, and where the middle of the diagonal board will split.

Final step of building this door is cutting those pieces and attaching using wood glue and 5/8” staples.
